Inspiring Words Around the World.

Even with a limited vocabulary in our language, words are rearranged to create new phrases to express our thoughts uniquely. Still, there are times when we gather a few sentiments but are unable to express them in our language. Words help us transcend this border of language and give new directions to our thoughts.

Let's have a look at a few of them.

a. In Irish, there is a beautiful phrase "tha mi bron ach" that says 'sadness is upon us.' This helped me realize that we don't need to attach ourselves to emotions. We are never fully our emotions. Just like the situation at hand, the emotion is also temporary. It doesn't define us. Feelings are passengers, just let them go. A similar phrase in Chinese says, "You can't stop the birds of sadness flying over you but don't let them nest in your hair."

b. Many movies fantasize about love at first sight. You will meet a girl/guy, your eyes will meet and you will fall in love. But how many times has it happened to you in real life? Not often actually! It is normal to find someone attractive, good-looking and attracted to their personality but fantasizing about it as love has always seemed a bit of a stretch. Falling in love seems beautiful and is best described as 'Koi no yokan'. The meaning differs for generations and this 'untranslatable' Japanese phrase 'Koi No Yokan' means 'the premonition of love'. Loosely translated it refers to the trust that you will inevitably fall in love with the person.

c. In the French language, the expression "tu me manques" means 'you are missing from me.' Manquer means “to miss.” That verb has many meanings: to fail, to lack, to be absent. So when it is used for a person, the expression becomes 'you are missing from me' instead of 'I miss you'. This is a very lovely expression that I have come across. Everyone who loves you gives you a piece of their heart and so this phrase expresses more importance, gratitude and love. "I am missing you from me. Because you are missing a part of your heart. "

These may not be in our language they are very easily able to capture our emotions. It's interesting to see how certain words change how you evaluate or deal with specific situations. They give us a better outlook on our situations or perhaps a better one.
