Gentle questions to ask yourself on hard days.
Not all days are the same.
Some days are sunshine, and some are nightmares. Some are simply heavy. Some days are messy, tiring, repetitive, and even the smallest task feels exhausting.
Not all emotions feel the same either.
Sometimes, I don't want to do anything because I have been working continuously all week. I feel like I deserve a break. I feel blank, tired, and numb from everything. I just want to do nothing and be a couch potato for a while.
Sometimes it's exhaustion. Sometimes it's feeling drained. Other times, it's disappointment, loneliness, or simply the weight of carrying too much for too long.
On days like these, before trying to untangle everything, I pause for a moment and peek inside myself.
Before I name the feeling I'm having, I first try to understand how I am actually feeling.
What's making me feel anxious today?
What is bothering me right now?
Is it one thing, or is it many small things piling up together?
Have I felt this before?
If this feeling is familiar, I remind myself what helped me get through it the last time.
If it's something new, I remind myself not to overreact.
New situations often feel bigger and scarier simply because they are unfamiliar.
What does my body need right now?
Most of the time, my body is asking for rest rather than solutions.
I eat good food.
I drink plenty of water.
I stretch a little.
I sleep a little more.
Sometimes, slowing down is productive too.
What is my mind telling me?
I try to listen to what my mind needs.
If I feel like sleeping, I sleep.
If I feel like working, then I work.
During my free time, I allow myself to slow down without guilt.
During work hours, I gently remind myself to focus only on the task in front of me.
I break things into smaller tasks.
I complete them one by one.
If possible, I distribute some of the work to others.
One task at a time.
Eventually, things get done.
What do I need to do today?
Not everything needs to be done at once.
I always remind myself that every time I begin, I somehow manage to finish what needs to be done.
So I simply start.
I do the important things.
I do the necessary things.
I aim small.
Completing even a tiny task can make the day feel a little more fulfilling.
I change the bedsheets.
I water the plants.
I fold the clothes and put them away.
I send that email I have been postponing.
Every tick on my checklist broadens my smile a little more.
What can I do to bring some ease into my day?
I watch something funny.
A comedy or a comforting slice-of-life show.
I talk to my friends or family.
If I feel like being alone, I go for a walk.
I order some takeout and eat something I genuinely enjoy.
I look at the sky.
Sometimes, I imagine the clouds carrying away my worries, or the moonlight sprinkling a little magic into my life.
I read a few chapters of a book.
A little screen detox always feels good.
And coffee.
Sweetness always helps.
A reminder to myself
Not every problem needs to be solved today.
I don't need to have everything figured out right now.
I can rest, reset, and gently put myself back in order.
Hard days are not a reflection of who I am.
They are simply days that ask for a little more softness, patience, and compassion from myself.
One small step is enough.
Tomorrow is another day.
